In 2006 I had the very rewarding experience of working in the art department on the feature film Stardust. This was probably the distinct highlight of my commercial art career, and certainly the most enjoyable and rewarding professional project to which I’ve ever contributed. I can’t think of a better creative environment for an illustrator. Gavin Bocquet, the production designer, designed all three recent Star Wars films. He mentored me along closely as my ideas were channeled and refined. I came up with ideas and created rough artwork and finished work all day long. To then see my own creation on the big screen was beyond exciting. My primary contribution on this project was designing “Stormhold,” a somewhat gloomy, classical city forged out of a dramatic mountainside.
